MARY ANGELA LAND (OCONNER) May 22, 1927 - February 3, 2004 Peacefully, after a brief battle with cancer, Mary passed away at home at 11:42 p.m. She is survived by her children, Matthew (Shirley) and Maureen Pridham (Vic) grandchildren, Todd, Nicole, Catherine, Roger and Sherrie; sisters, Nora, Pat, and Eileen; brother, Bernadine as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary was born in Tipperary, Ireland, but grew up in the Edinborough area of Scotland. She came to Winnipeg in 1948 and subsequently met Roger Land, the love of her life, whom she married in May 1950. She was predeceased by Roger in March 1982. She was also predeceased by her sister Kathleen; and brothers, Jim and Mattie. Marys life was not an easy one, in her early 40s she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which severely limited her ability to do many things. In more recent years she suffered from heart problems, and over the last several months, cancer. Through it all she never complained and accepted her situation in a dignified and graceful way. Mary had a great faith in God and this carried her through much of her ordeal. The immediate family would like to thank Marys many friends, including her special friends at Edgewood Estates, as well as her extended family for their prayers, kind thoughts and gestures over her last months. Mary treasured you all. The family would also like to thank the staff of CancerCare Manitoba, the Palliative Home Care Program, and in particular Ann Ediger and Arlo Raven who made it possible for Marys wish to die at home to be fulfilled. Prayers will be said on Monday, February 9 at 9:45 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue and Brazier Street with Brother Jorge Villegas officiating. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, donations may be made in Marys honour to CancerCare Manitoba. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
